About C60
What is C60?
+
C60, or buckminsterfullerene, is a molecule made of 60 carbon atoms arranged in a hollow spherical cage — the same geometric pattern as a football. It was discovered in 1985 by Kroto, Curl and Smalley, work for which they received the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Scientific interest in C60 has grown significantly since the Baati et al. (2012) study. You can read the full background on our What is C60? page.
Is C60 safe?
+
C60 fullerene is not classified as toxic in its pure solid form. The Baati (2012) study in rats found no signs of toxicity at the doses used. However, C60 has not undergone formal human clinical safety trials and is not authorised as a novel food under EU Regulation 2015/2283. If you have any health condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare professional before use. We present our product for personal research and topical use.
What does C60 olive oil taste like?
+
The oil has the characteristic taste of high-quality extra-virgin olive oil — grassy, slightly peppery, with a clean finish. The presence of dissolved C60 does not significantly alter the flavour. The colour is a rich golden-green, similar to premium EVOO.
Is this product a medicine or a supplement?
+
No. This product is not a medicine, is not classified as a food supplement, and has not been authorised as a novel food under EU Regulation 2015/2283. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or health condition. It is a premium oil product offered for personal wellness research and topical application. No health claims are made or implied.
Can C60 oil be used topically?
+
Yes. Topical application of olive oil-based products is well-established. Both extra-virgin olive oil and C60 have been investigated in cosmetic and topical research contexts. For topical use, apply a small amount to the skin area of interest. EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 governs cosmetic claims for topical applications. If you have sensitive skin or a skin condition, consult a dermatologist first.
Storage & Usage
How should C60 olive oil be stored?
+
Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. The black glass bottle protects against UV degradation. Refrigeration is not required but may extend shelf life. Always keep the bottle tightly sealed when not in use. Do not store near heat sources.
What is the shelf life?
+
Our C60 olive oil has a shelf life of 18 months from the production date when stored correctly. The batch production date and best-before date are printed on the label. Once opened, we recommend using within 6 months for optimal quality.
How is it used in a personal research context?
+
We do not prescribe dosage or provide usage instructions, as this product is not a food supplement or medicine. Those using it in the context of personal wellness research typically refer to published scientific literature — notably the Baati et al. (2012) study — for protocol context. Our Science Library is a good starting point.
Products & Differences
Why organic extra-virgin olive oil and not another carrier?
+
Olive oil is the carrier used in the original Baati study, making it the reference formulation for C60 oil research. EVOO is also uniquely suited as a carrier because: C60 is lipophilic and dissolves readily in it; EVOO contains its own polyphenol antioxidants with authorised EU health claims; and its chemical stability protects the formulation during storage. We plan to offer additional carrier oils in future — see our Products page for updates.
What makes your C60 solvent-free?
+
Some C60 products on the market are produced using chemical solvents (such as toluene or benzene) to facilitate dissolution, which are then supposed to be removed. Residual traces of these solvents are a concern. Our C60 is purified using HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) without solvents, and dissolved into olive oil using only mechanical stirring under argon — no solvents at any stage. This is confirmed by our Certificate of Analysis.
